Watching a hawk soar always takes my breath away. I painted “Self Song” when I lived on a canyon in Serra Mesa, which was actually the childhood home I grew up in. This period of my life was rich with healing work. I was sorting through my layers, shedding and walking into the canyons, crying to Spirit for answers. They always came with the shriek of the Hawk. We return time and time again to our own truth, our authentic song meant to be shared with the world.
It’s framed by one of my favorite people, Ryan Campbell owner of Wonka Gallery. For years he’s indulged my framing visions, and knows that I love frames with personality, a little 70s flair, and knotty wood. He had some raw framing, and created a frame that I could extend the painting out from. I love the expansiveness of breaking paintings out from their form. It also has a rich ruby fabric liner.
